Today, PJ and I did an insane amount of driving. No, seriously. I have had the car about 30 hours and I have added an astounding 145 miles. Why? Well, work combined with the dealership being about 30 miles away and just the pure adrenaline of driving it around (I might have taken the long way a few times, but can you blame me?) can take its toll on a car. 145 miles though, and it has just barely made it to having used a quarter of the tank, and that is with me still getting used to the controls.
Which is something they don't entirely tell you about. Getting a hybrid is a little like relearning to drive (but not in a bad way). You have to relearn how to use the car to its full potential. You can still drive the way you do in your regular car (and get great gas mileage to boot!) but if you really want to make it worth it? You glide. Which is basically taking your foot off of the gas and then pressing lightly on it. It works pretty well though! My handy dandy barometer tells me I am averaging a lovely 36 mpg and when you take into account the 18 I was getting in my last car it is slowly making me sure that I am never going to own a strictly gas car again.
